SCHOOL TRIP TO EDINBURGH SEPTEMBER 2017

Edinburgh is the capital city of Scotland and one of its 32 council areas. It’s located in Lothian. It’s the largest financial centre in UK after London. The city’s historical and cultural attractions have made it the United Kingdom’s second most popular tourist destination after London. Edinburgh is Scotland’s second most populous city in the United Kingdom. The population is about 400 000.  Edinburgh is home to the Scottish Parliament and the seat of monarchy in Scotland.

The Edinburgh castle
Edinburgh Castle is a historic fortress which dominates the skyline of the city of Edinburgh, Scotland, from its position on the Castle Rock. Edinburgh Castle was involved in many historical conflicts from the Wars of Scottish Independence in the 14th century. The castle, in the care of Historic Scotland, is Scotland's most-visited paid tourist attraction. The castle stands upon the plug of an extinct volcano, which is estimated to have risen about 350 million years ago.
The Princes Street Gardens
Princes Street Gardens is a public park in the centre of Edinburgh, Scotland, in the shadow of Edinburgh Castle. The Gardens were created in two phases in the 1770s and 1820s following the long draining of the Nor Loch and building of the New Town, beginning in the 1760s. The loch, situated on the north side of the town, was originally an artificial creation forming part of its medieval defences and made expansion northwards difficult.

Princes Street
This street is very famous because there are a lot of shops so it is very busy. It is the main shopping street in the capital. If you are in the street you can see the Princes street gardens and also the Edinburgh castle.

Ghost tour
 The Edinburgh Dungeon
Edinburgh is very famous for ghosts infact there are a lot of activities like ghost tour : it is a tour in the basement where a person tells you a lot of real horror stories. We also did the Edinburgh Dungeons  that was kind of haunted place and it was really nice but a bit scary.
We went to a cemetery that was huge!

                                                               A late clock?

This clock is in front of Princes street.  It is above the station and it is 5 minutes late because in this way people don’t miss the train.

National museum of Scotland
This museum is very big and famous. It is an interactive museum where you can play with some robot or you can drive a car like Formula Uno. It is very interesting!
It is like a car of the time because you can see extinct animals and old things but you can also see new inventions.

Royal Mile
The Royal Mile is the name given to a succession of streets forming the main thoroughfare of the Old Town of the city of Edinburgh in Scotland.
Royal Mile is an eclectic mix of shops, restaurants, pubs and visitor attractions. During the annual Edinburgh Festival, the High Street becomes crowded with tourists, entertainers and buskers. In this street you can see a lot of Harry Potter shops! It is very colorful and beautiful.

St. Andrews
It is a beautiful city near the sea. The weather is very cold and it is windy. The town is home to the University of St Andrews, the third oldest university in the English-speaking world and the oldest in Scotland. St Andrews is also known worldwide as the "home of golf".
The Museum of the University of St Andrews is a small museum dedicated to the history of the University of St Andrews. The museum, which is free to enter, looks at the University's foundation, student life at the University, and innovative ideas and inventions.

Glasgow
Glasgow  is the largest city in Scotland, and third-largest in the United Kingdom. Glasgow grew from a small rural settlement on the River Clyde. The city has many amenities for a wide range of cultural activities, from curling to opera and ballet and from football to art appreciation; it also has a large selection of museums that include those devoted to transport, religion, and modern art. Like in Princes street there are a lot of shops.

The Elephant House
In this bar stayed Jk. Rowling  when she was writing Harry Potter because she was poor and she didn’t have heat. It is the birthplace of Harry Potter.

Loch Lomond
It is a beautiful lake where we had a boat trip and where we took a photos. We saw a lof of person who were fishing with a rod.

Ceva in the world 2016/27 (part 4 of 7)

                                                   Schoolyear 2016/2017

Giada Gennaro is in Norway she has chosen this country because she likes wild landscapes and wanted to see "aurora borealis",or northern lights.
This is what she wrote us "Hei! Hvordan går det? (howareyou?) I arrived in Norway almost 2 months ago, it seems yesterday! It`s amazing here, really amazing! In only two months I have seen many times the northern nights and one time my family and me were sitting in a Jacuzzi drinking something warm and suddenly we saw a falling star and some moving stars (that I had never seen before and no, they weren`t airplanes ahah). Here  life is really different from ours one, everything is so calm and  time seems  slower than in Italy. Everyone is kind and friendly, but there are different traditions and habits; they don`t speak so much to each other but when you start knowing them better, it`s easier and they aren`t shy at all! I love my family, they are amazing! I have 2 little brothers (12 and 13 years old, Iver and Sølve) and I have a lot of fun with all of them! My parents are lovely and my dad is a bit crazy in a very cool and sweet way (but that`s normal, he is an artist ahah). My mum talks a lot and she can involve everyone, she has this fantastic power! The Norwegian language is of course an obstacle, it isn`s easy but I`m trying to learn it! I hope that I will understand and speak more Norwegian by Christmas time! At school the lessons are all in Norwegian (neither in Spanish nor in English ) so now it`s a bit heavy for  me to understand everything. I go to school from 8:20 to 13:35 or 15:20, we have to change classroom every 90 minutes and we have a break of 15 minutes between each class and 30 minutes break for lunch. The students have a lot of freedom here but not only at school, also in families, as they are so small. I don`t want to annoy you with a lot of stupid things that for me are amazing so ha det bra (bye bye)! Ps: here the sun has started to be lower, the winter and with it the night period are coming!! Kisses and hugs from Harstad!"

Giada, you were so brave , good luck!

Ceva in the world 2016/27 (part 3 of 7)

Simona Di Murro is in the USA, too. She's very well and she enjoys her American life so much.
She plays volleyball and gets on very well with her family, they are fantastic Here are some photos she sent us.

This is her Senior picture for my Yearbook. She took it with her family in the Stony Brook State Park in Dansville.

Her sisters and Simona  on her first American day.

     Schoolyear 2016/2017

Camilla Franchello has been in Mexico since August and she is spending there the whole schoolyear.
She sent us a photo and a description of her life.

This is what she wrote about her experience: "  It’s 20 days that I have come to Mexico but it seems that i arrived yesterday! This country is so different from Italy, people are so happy, they meet you and on the same day invite you home! My city is Paraiso, it’s in the state of Tabasco and it isn’t a big city! Here cities are so different because people either are rich or  poor; here middle classes don’t exist,  so the cities are so poor! My Mexican school is called “Jean Piaget”; it’s a secondary school and  it’s not so big. in my class we are 20 guys. My Mexican family is so nice and i have two brothers, Isaac and Roger. Time flies so fast and there are a lot of things to do here! I think this experience is so fun because you need to leave alone without knowing the language of your host country in my case I don’t know Spanish at all but you meet a lot of people and i think this year will really change my life!"

A new country, a new language, it will be a real adventure! Good luck, Camilla!

Ceva in the world 2016/27 (part 1 of 7)

Tonight around 3,000 events are taking place in Dublin to celebrate
Irish culture: museums, libraries,
galleries will be open until late, just for free, to discover
Dublin's creativity and hidden treasures.
A proposal might be spending the night at the James Joyce Centre....
Thursday 15th 2016

Scheduled for today these was the visit to Kilmainhman Gaol, too.
"Gaol" is the Irish word for "jail" (prison),
here the rebels of the Easter Rising were imprisoned and executed.

Thursday 15th 2016 - visit to Collins Barracks

Collins Barracks is a museum about Irish history, it was the headquarters
of the British soldiers first and then of the Irish army in Dublin after 1922,
when the Irish Free State was established.
Especially interesting are the sections about the wars the Irish soldiers fought in the history,
WWI (alongside the British)  and the War of Independence (1916) against the British Rule,
to obtain Home Rule. Uniforms, tanks, airplanes documents are on disply,to show
sacrifices and suffering wars always brings with them.
Watch this video about the museum....
